Q&A with Femi Barnabas Antwi , PJM 1 Cohort ’23

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHY YOU CHOSE TO APPLY FOR THE BLOSSOM ACADEMY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM.

I found out about Blossom Academy through alumni I came across on LinkedIn who had moved into data analyst roles. Seeing where they ended up made me curious about the program and serious about pursuing data analytics as a career.

At that point, I had already been watching YouTube tutorials, but I wanted more than that. I wanted to be truly equipped, not just familiar with the concepts.

Blossom Academy gave me that. The structure, mentorship, and hands-on work took my understanding to a level I do not think I would have reached on my own. It transformed a growing interest into something real, and honestly, that foundation still shows up in the work I do today.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CAREER RESPONSIBILITIES?

I currently work as a Business Operations Analyst at, where my work sits at the intersection of data and decision-making.

On any given day, I could be building Power BI dashboards for senior leadership, automating reports in Excel, tracking sales pipeline performance in Salesforce, or supporting Finance, Supply Chain, PowerGen, and other departments with the analysis they need. Some of my dashboards also track our rebuild center performance, and I am involved in process optimisation and project management activities such as Gantt charts and timeline tracking.

What I find most rewarding is that the skills I developed during my training, asking the right questions, structuring data properly, and presenting findings that drive decisions, show up in my work every single day.

HOW DID BLOSSOM ACADEMY SUPPORT YOU IN PREPARING FOR YOUR CAREER?

The learning was well-structured and delivered by expert instructors who ensured we were building something solid, not just ticking boxes. What stood out to me most was that Blossom understood that technical skills alone do not make someone effective in the workplace. They invested in leadership development alongside the technical curriculum, which showed me they were focused on developing the whole professional, not just the data analyst.

We also had exposure to mentorship with, a global trend forecasting company, which gave me insight into how data and analytics function at an international level. Blossom Oseeey!!!

On top of that, Blossom supported me in securing an internship with, one of Africa’s leading digital marketing companies. I got the opportunity to apply what I had learned in a real business environment, work through actual data challenges, and see firsthand how analytics drives decision-making. I was also exposed to new tools and practical experiences.

Blossom really came through for me. The combination of structured learning, leadership development, global mentorship, and real-world internship exposure gave me a foundation I still draw from today. Kudos to you, Blossom! You will always be a beautiful part of my story.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND SPEAK TO YOURSELF ON YOUR FIRST DAY AT BLOSSOM ACADEMY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY NOW?

Femi, you have taken a gigantic leap, and you should be proud of yourself. You are literally about to blossom.

Show up fully, soak everything in, and trust the process. The doors this opportunity will open for you will truly surprise you.

WHICH INDUSTRY OR SECTOR IN AFRICA DO YOU BELIEVE HAS THE GREATEST UNTAPPED POTENTIAL FOR DATA & AI, AND WHY?

Healthcare stands out to me as the sector with the greatest untapped potential for data and AI in Africa.

I say this from personal experience. I once visited a hospital and watched staff struggle to find my patient folder because it was buried among thousands of others. Something as basic as retrieving a patient’s records became a whole ordeal, and that has real consequences for how care is delivered.

Better digitisation of patient records, smarter reporting systems, and AI-supported operations can transform how hospitals function and how patients are served.

That said, with greater digitisation comes greater responsibility. Any push toward data-driven healthcare must be matched with strong data protection and security standards.
