Blossom Academy is proud to announce its collaboration with Generation as part of the Ghana Remote & Online Work (GROW) program- supported by Mastercard Foundation Ghana. This partnership aims to equip 180 young Ghanaians from underserved regions, including the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Northern regions, with essential data skills to thrive in the global digital economy. Through this initiative, Blossom Academy continues its mission to close the skills gap and create opportunities for the youth in Ghana, particularly in the high-demand field of data analytics.
Addressing the Digital Skills Gap in Ghana
In Ghana, the demand for digital skills far exceeds the supply, forcing nearly 20% of companies to recruit internationally, according to a recent report by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This skills gap is especially pronounced among youth from less affluent backgrounds, who often lack access to the necessary training and resources to compete in the global job market.
Blossom Academy is dedicated to bridging this gap by providing targeted training in data analytics. By focusing on in-demand skills, the academy aims to empower young Ghanaians to increase their income potential and secure high-quality job opportunities, both locally and internationally. Through the GROW partnership, we are taking a significant step toward realizing this vision.
A Comprehensive Training Program
The cornerstone of our collaboration with Generation is a 12-week Fellowship program designed to develop world-class data professionals. This intensive program, delivered through a blend of virtual and in-person sessions, will equip students with proficiency in key industry tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python. Participants will learn how to analyze large data sets, create dashboards, and present data-driven insights, culminating in a portfolio-grade presentation of their work.
The program’s objectives are ambitious yet achievable: to recruit and develop 180+ underserved talents, with 70% of participants identifying as women. We aim for a 90% graduation rate per cohort and are committed to connecting at least 80% of graduates to data-related job opportunities within 90 days post-program.
Building a Strong Pipeline for Remote Opportunities
As part of the GROW initiative, Blossom Academy will also work closely with a dedicated Program Coordinator to build a robust pipeline of freelancing opportunities for our students. This includes establishing a presence on global freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, where graduates can showcase their skills and secure remote work. We will regularly review and report on the performance of our graduates, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with market demands.
Our extensive alumni network, consisting of professionals working remotely from Ghana or Nigeria, will play a crucial role in supporting current students. By leveraging this network, we aim to identify and secure job opportunities that allow our graduates to compete globally, thereby enhancing their career prospects and income potential.
Looking Ahead
Blossom Academy’s partnership with Generation marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to empower Africa’s youth with the skills they need to succeed in this digital age. By focusing on data skills and remote work opportunities, we are positioning our graduates to excel in the global marketplace, contributing to a more inclusive and prosperous future for Ghana.
We invite stakeholders, industry partners, and the broader community to join us in this transformative journey. Together, we can unlock the potential of Ghanaian youth and pave the way for a brighter, more prosperous future.
